Description
The West Point motto, "Duty, Honor, Country" has guided the life of Chief Judge H. Robert Mayer. Combining oral history and interviews with those who knew him well, this volume opens with a biography of Judge Mayer from his childhood in upstate New York through his military career and service on the Federal Circuit, including during 9/11. The motto echoes through articles on James Madison's formative partnerships by Constitutional lawer and historian David O. Stewart, and an examination of nonfiction history and historical fiction by author Dr. Laura Kamoie. This issue concludes with former Patent Commissioner Thomas Ewing's prescient advocacy in 1918 for a new court to hear all patent appeals - a foreshadowing of the Federal Circuit, created in 1982.
